McDowell Realty was established in 1956 by L.L. McDowell, Harold’s father. After Harold’s military duties were completed, he joined his father (who also began an auctioneering business) and established an insurance & real estate agency that was in business for 38 years. Then in 1979, Harold purchased a Century 21 franchise office and built the office up to 19-25 sales agents. He also helped form a local Commercial and Investment Group of Central Missouri and served as the president of that club. Harold was also the chairman at many Century 21 1031 Marketing and Exchange session meetings. He attended several sessions of CCIM schools and many other sessions concerning real estate investments and real estate sales.
In 1996, Harold merged with W.W. Gratz Real Estate and presently operates as Gratz & McDowell Real Estate, working out of the same office building at 2821 S. Ten Mile Dr. They have joined together in making a successful real estate & auctioneering business. Today, Harold’s time is spent in 90% commercial real estate–selling commercial land and investments for his clients–and 10% of his time in residential real estate—all within a 20 mile radius of Jefferson City.
On the personal side, Harold’s family consists of his wife Annie and three grown children, Rick, Cindy, & Susie. He has over 20 memberships in different professional organizations, including Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Eagles, American Legion & all Masonic Lodges and Shrine Clubs. He was also a three-term president of the Jefferson City Board of the Realtors. Harold has been very active in assisting with the growth and economic development of Jefferson City and has been on several economic committees. He is also very active in supporting Jefferson City ‘s high school sport teams and continually assists with fundraisings for all of the parochial and public high schools.
